Day 6: Key gets designed!

I started my game art and got the main character, Key, setup for animation! I should start getting more assets done so I can start building the game, finally!! My art journey is motivating me to continue, even if it's getting tough.

This was a REALLY fun art stream! I went from nothing to an original character design ready for animation! I also had some time to work on the environment decor a little. I created 3 variations of Key (front, side and back view) as well as his chair and some office plants. Check out the stream below if you wanna see how it went!

What I learned on day 6:

  • Characters don’t need to be perfect, they just need to be consistent
  • I learned that it’s a good idea to sketch variations before going all in on an idea
  • I made one concept and loved it, so I went with it and embraced the strange
  • Having fun is not always tied to completing work, but seeing my art come to life is rewarding
  • I feel like I should have started digital art a long time ago…START TODAY if you are looking for your sign

Here is a photo op from today’s stream 🙂 Key has Sweater Armor, and Greaves of Grief. His chair of Trolling is also to be found!

Day 3: Getting the game feel in place

The core game loop is coming together! I'm moving along a lot faster than I thought I would. I feel like progress so far is pretty good, and I'm ready to start getting some art assets done. I still have level progression and menus to make, but the gameplay is coming together already. I have…

Day 2: Prototyping Movement

Today, I started prototyping my main character's movement and building out the game design document. I'm hoping that I can find some time to stream this weekend and share progress, but it's a busy weekend! I'm enjoying reading about moths and fireflies. I'm going to implement some light storytelling to help set the scene. I'm…

JernJam 2026 begins! Here’s what I’m making.

It's been almost a year since I posted. Quite honestly, I haven't been making games. I tried back in April, but I overscoped and had to refactor the character setup almost a week in. I spent too many days on art and delayed the actual work inside the engine. That's on me! Other than that,…

The Indie Game Gauntlet is BACK for November!

As indie game developers, we pour our passion into every aspect of our games. We spend endless late nights fine-tuning mechanics (adding secret endings), perfecting the art, and creating experiences we hope players will adore. But the truth is, we’re often too close to our projects to see them objectively. You test endlessly, only for…
