Day 3: Learning Character Art

I was nervous about showing my process and being judged, but TheCaptainCoder and some of the other community members helped me realize that it doesn't matter what it looks like as long as I'm learning and having fun doing it.

I decided to stream my progress in learning art, because although I was scared, it was important to me that I share where I started. I was nervous about showing my process and being judged, but TheCaptainCoder and some of the other community members helped me realize that it doesn’t matter what it looks like as long as I’m learning and having fun doing it. Below is the highlight from my stream. I hope you get some enjoyment out of watching the process! It was very nerve-wracking at first, but not so bad over time.

Things I learned on day 3

  • Eyes and expressions with the mouth are HUGE when it comes to character development
  • I didn’t have to freehand everything for the bodies (the course gave assets), but I felt like I learned way more by just making my own character templates to work from.
  • I enjoy adding details to make characters come to life
  • Streaming my progress made me more confident in having fun than I imagined
  • I work way better going through courses than I do tutorials
  • I like to go off script and imagine art from my own lens; it connects me to my work by deviating from the script sometimes
